Edgard Varese's “Octandre”

See Hear Chamber Ensemble
Live Music-Visuals Composer

with Peggy Gyulai and Onadime
May 19, 2005

This See Hear Chamber Ensemble event took place in the Perelman Theater of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Phillip Reay of Metacosm Design Labs collaborated with painter Peggy Gyulai to create a visual analog of Edgard Varese's 1923 composition, Octandre, a "sometimes sensuous, often startling … masterpiece of French modernism." (program performance notes)

Utilizing Onadime software, Phillip created a "visual instrument" with color timbres, visual tempos, and compositional rhythyms which digitally sampled the live performance and choreographed a simultaneous visual expression of the live musical performance.

With Onadime, Phillip has produced many live-music visual performance elements for both classical and rock music projects.
